What’s the worst “injury” or abuse your camera survived?

I brought a point and shoot Olympus camera on my first trip to China and dropped it in an antique store… It opened up and pieces of it went flying in all directions. Thought for sure it was a goner. I scooped up the pieces, anyway, and brought it to a camera store and asked if they could repair and for how much. Figured it would be cheaper to buy a new camera. Well, the guy only charged me 30 USD (hey, it’s China) and put it all back together with what appeared to be surgical instruments he used… Worked fine after that.

How about you- Any unusual stories to tell?

While parachuting, my Leica M3′s neck strap broke and the camera fill over 1,200 feet into the sand drop zone.

When I found it, it had landed on its back. For about $100 the camera repair guy was able to push the lens mount back to its correct position using a special little jacking mechanism.

I used it for many years until I traded it for a Hasselblad body.
