Retaking classes for Medical school?
I got a D & F in Calculus I and Programming with Java I and Brief Calculus.
A in Chem I & II, B in Physics I, A in Physics II (TAKEN at community college)
A in Biology I , C in Bio II (University) taken out of order, Bio II first
I’m a Mathematics and German major. I got A’s in Calc II & II and Advanced Calc and math beyond that, and I retook those classes and got A’s instead of D & F.
My GPA is now 3.57 or 3.60
Do I have any chance at med school or dental school? suppose i do well on the MCAT.
I also have several literary publications (poems and short stories) in literary magazines.
The bad grades show up on my transcript but not on my GPA count.
The publications count as extra-curricular activities, right?
You definitely have a chance. However you might want to recalculate that GPA. AMCAS (med school app center) will count your D & F in the GPA they submit to medical schools. an F is a 0.00. But you definitely have a chance. You might be looking at 3.4 AMCAS GPA. Which is not a death sentence because that was my GPA
Not to mention you will need to justify those grades. Family illness or issue? Working too many hours? Personal illness?
I would retake Bio II also. A C in a biological class (considering its medical school or dental) looks really bad. Why is there so much inconsistency with your grades? the interviewers will be wondering that as I am.
As far as the MCAT, You will have to do really well. Maybe a score like 33 or higher. It will take some preparation.
Publications will count as extra curriculars. However I would make sure to have some serious shadowing lined up. Because your academic side is so poor you will have to really assemble some serious health care experience working at clinics, volunteering at nursing homes or for hospices or in the hospital (at a hospital which will give you hands-on experience. if the hospital suggests information desk, you’d be better off at a homeless shelter serving soup) information desk is the worst worst activity ever, medically related volunteering will be CRITICAL. But don’t forget about prep for MCAT while trying to put together a decent list of extra curriculars.
Or for dental you need to shadow some dentists. Find a low cost dental clinic that will let you volunteer. You will need a high DAT score but I’m not a DAT expert.
Bottom line is that a good MCAT score, great personal statement will help mask some academic deficiencies along with serious medically related extra curriculars.
Also include literary stuff for well-rounded applicant.
Also, you need to determine which professional school. Dental or Medical. So your activities can be geared towards the right school. Working in nursing homes etc. will work for both, But shadowing a doctor won’t work for dental.

Medical Tourism in Philippines $195 How to Strategically Evaluate Philippines. Perhaps the most efficient way of evaluating Philippines is to consider key dimensions which themselves are composites of multiple factors. Composite portfolio approaches have long been used by strategic planners. The biggest challenge in this approach is to choose the appropriate factors that are the most relevant to international planning. The two measures of greatest relevance to medical tourism are “latent demand” and “market accessibility”. The figure below summarizes the key dimensions and recommendations of such an approach. Using these two composites, one can prioritize all countries of the world. Countries of high latent demand and high relative accessibility (e.g. easier entry for one firm compared to other firms) are given highest priority. The figure below shows two different scenarios. Accessibility is defined as a firm’s ease of entering or supplying from or to a market (the “supply side”), and latent demand is an indicator of the potential in serving from or to the market (the “demand side”). Framework for Prioritizing Countries. Demand/Market Potential Driven Firm. Relative Accessibility. Accessibility/Supply Averse Firm. In the top figure, the firm is driven by market potential, whereas the bottom figure represents a firm that is driven by costs or by an aversion to difficult markets. This report treats the reader as coming from a “generic firm” approaching the global market – neither a market-driven nor a cost-driven company. Planners must therefore augment this report with their own company-specific factors that might change the priorities (e.g. a Canadian firm may have higher accessibility in Canada than a German firm). Latent Demand and Accessibility in Philippines. This report provides a detailed overview of factors driving latent demand and accessibility for medical tourism in Philippines. Latent demand is largely driven by economic fundamentals specific to medical tourism. This topic is discussed in Chapter 2 using work carried out in Philippines on behalf of American firms and authored by the United States government (typically commercial attachés or similar persons in local offices of the U.S. Department of State). I have included a number of edits to clarify the information provided. Latent demand only represents half of the picture.
