German Medical

What are some medical terms that are derived from French and German?

Most medical terms are derived from Latin and Greek, not from French and German.
I work in a hospital laboratory and it is my job to type in medical details on blood test requests. The doctors don’t use French or German words, they use Greek or Latin.

Of course the French and German language both have words for for things like pregnancy. In French pregnant is “enceinte”. Were you simply looking for the equivalent words for common medical terms in French and German, rather than the technical words used by doctors?

Frederick III, German Emperor

Frederick III, German Emperor

$70.1

Frederick III (German: Friedrich III., Deutscher Kaiser und Knig von Preuen; 18 October 1831 15 June 1888) was German Emperor and King of Prussia for 99 days in 1888 during the Year of the Three Emperors. Frederick William Nicholas Charles (German: Friedrich Wilhelm Nikolaus Karl), known informally as Fritz, was the only son of Emperor William I, and was raised in his familys tradition of military service. Although celebrated as a young man for his leadership and successes during the Second Schleswig, AustroPrussian and FrancoPrussian wars, he nevertheless professed a hatred of warfare, and was praised by friends and enemies alike for his humane conduct. Following the unification of Germany in 1871 his father, then King of Prussia, became the German Emperor, and on Williams death at the age of 90 on 9 March 1888, the throne passed to Frederick, having by then been the Crown Prince for twentyseven years. Frederick was suffering from cancer of the larynx and died on 15 June 1888, aged 57, following unsuccessful medical treatments for his condition. Frederick married Princess Victoria, daughter of Queen Victoria of Great Britain. Author: Miller, Frederic P./ Vandome, Agnes F./ McBrewster, John Binding Type: Paperback Number of Pages: 96 Publication Date: 2010/07/27 Language: English Dimensions: 5.98 x 9.01 x 0.22 inches

Dictionary of Medical Sociology

Dictionary of Medical Sociology

$111

As a sociological specialty, medical sociology has a distinct history and literature spanning more than four decades. Since its inception in the years following World War II, medical sociology has attracted significant funds for research, provided extensive employment opportunities within and outside the academy, and produced an increasing number of professional publications. The Medical Sociology Section is the largest specialty represented in both the British and German Sociological Associations and is the second largest among American sociologists. Unlike other, more theoretically oriented branches of sociology, medical sociology was expected by funding agencies and policymakers to produce social knowledge that could be readily applied in medical practice, public health campaigns, and health policy formulation. Thus medical sociology is of interest not only to sociologists, but also to physicians, nurses, psychologists, social workers, therapists, hospital administrators, health insurers, health economists, and others who rely on the basic insights of sociology in research, patient care, and job performance. Like other disciplines, medical sociology has its own fundamental terms and concepts. This reference book concisely defines those terms and is thus a necessary guide for medical sociologists and for practitioners and researchers in related fields. The volume begins with an introductory essay that traces the history of medical sociology. The dictionary then presents short, alphabetically arranged entries for numerous terms. Entries provide a definition of the term and generally discuss the theoretical and practical significance of the topic. For appropriate entries, cross-references to related terms are provided. Entries cite relevant literature, and the volume closes with a bibliography of works cited.

Redefining German Health Care

Redefining German Health Care

$49.95

The German health care system is on a collision course with budget realities. Costs are high and rising, and quality problems are becoming ever more apparent. Decades of reforms have produced little change to these troubling trends. Why has Germany failed to solve these cost and quality problems? The reason is that Germany has not set value for patients as the overarching goal, defined as the patient health outcomes achieved per euro expended. This book lays out an action agenda to move Germany to a high value system: care must be reorganized around patients and their medical conditions, providers must compete around the outcomes they achieve, health plans must take an active role in improving subscriber health, and payment must shift to models that reward excellent providers. Also, private insurance must be integrated in the risk-pooling system. These steps are practical and achievable, as numerous examples in the book demonstrate. Moving to a value-based health care system is the only way for Germany to continue to ensure access to excellent health care for everyone.

Medical Tourism in Philippines

Medical Tourism in Philippines

$195

How to Strategically Evaluate Philippines. Perhaps the most efficient way of evaluating Philippines is to consider key dimensions which themselves are composites of multiple factors. Composite portfolio approaches have long been used by strategic planners. The biggest challenge in this approach is to choose the appropriate factors that are the most relevant to international planning. The two measures of greatest relevance to medical tourism are “latent demand” and “market accessibility”. The figure below summarizes the key dimensions and recommendations of such an approach. Using these two composites, one can prioritize all countries of the world. Countries of high latent demand and high relative accessibility (e.g. easier entry for one firm compared to other firms) are given highest priority. The figure below shows two different scenarios. Accessibility is defined as a firm’s ease of entering or supplying from or to a market (the “supply side”), and latent demand is an indicator of the potential in serving from or to the market (the “demand side”). Framework for Prioritizing Countries. Demand/Market Potential Driven Firm. Relative Accessibility. Accessibility/Supply Averse Firm. In the top figure, the firm is driven by market potential, whereas the bottom figure represents a firm that is driven by costs or by an aversion to difficult markets. This report treats the reader as coming from a “generic firm” approaching the global market – neither a market-driven nor a cost-driven company. Planners must therefore augment this report with their own company-specific factors that might change the priorities (e.g. a Canadian firm may have higher accessibility in Canada than a German firm). Latent Demand and Accessibility in Philippines. This report provides a detailed overview of factors driving latent demand and accessibility for medical tourism in Philippines. Latent demand is largely driven by economic fundamentals specific to medical tourism. This topic is discussed in Chapter 2 using work carried out in Philippines on behalf of American firms and authored by the United States government (typically commercial attachés or similar persons in local offices of the U.S. Department of State). I have included a number of edits to clarify the information provided. Latent demand only represents half of the picture. Chapter 2 also deals with micro-accessibility for medical tourism in Philippines. I use the term “micro” since the discussion is focused specifically on medical tourism. Chapter 3 deals with macro-accessibility and covers factors that go beyond medical tourism. A country may at first sight appear to be attractive due to a high latent demand, but it is often less attractive when one considers at the macro level how easy it might be to serve that entire potential and/or general business risks. While accessibility will always vary from one company to another for a given c

It covers proxy pro-forma financial indicators of firms operating in France. I use the word “proxy” because the provided figures only cover a “what if” scenario, based on actual operating results for firms in France. How to Strategically Evaluate Vietnam. Perhaps the most efficient way of evaluating Vietnam is to consider key dimensions which themselves are composites of multiple factors. Composite portfolio approaches have long been used by strategic planners. The biggest challenge in this approach is to choose the appropriate factors that are the most relevant to international planning. The two measures of greatest relevance to medical equipment and products are “latent demand” and “market accessibility”. Latent Demand and Accessibility in Vietnam. This report provides a detailed overview of factors driving latent demand and accessibility for medical equipment and products in Vietnam. Latent demand is largely driven by economic fundamentals specific to medical equipment and products. This topic is discussed in Chapter 2 using work carried out in Vietnam on behalf of American firms and authored by the United States government (typically commercial attachés or similar persons in local offices of the U.S. Department of State). I have included a number of edits to clarify the information provided. Latent demand only represents half of the picture.
