Human Prosthetic Glass
what are your opinions on transhumanism?
what has taken nature millions of years of evolution, we can replicate in a matter of days or even hours, we are the point where we can choose what we evolve too, what do you think about transhumanism, I think that we will have to accept it, sooner or later.. I think we already have in a small scale, wearing glasses, prosthetic limbs, body modifications, artificial organs, medicines etc, we are already post-human in a way.. maybe thats what it means to be human, to choose our own evolution, what do you think?
mature answers please,
Dizzy, I agree with some of the things you are saying, we do need to change our behavior, but we are not just destructive, I think advancing into this post-human age, we will become more aware of the dangers we cause on this earth, and have the technology to solve it, its not that people are evil, we are just too lazy to stop destroying the planet. I think this will change once we move on to this phase.
I don’t agree that glasses, artificial limbs, ect has anything to do with evolution, that’s just the progression of more sophisticated tools that we use. But I do agree that choosing our own evolution has some truth to it, but it will be/is more on a cognitive level.

The Prosthetic Impulse by Smith, Marquard; Morra, Joanne Edition ILL, 0 $23.49 Prosthesis — pointing to an addition, replacement, extension, enhancement — has become something of an all-purpose metaphor for the interactions of body and technology. Concerned with cybernetics, transplant technology, artificial intelligence, and virtual reality, among other cultural and scientific developments, the prosthetic conjures up a posthuman condition. In response to this, the 13 original essays in The Prosthetic Impulse reassert the phenomenological, material, and embodied nature of prosthesis without dismissing its metaphorical potential. They examine the historical and conceptual edge between the human and the posthuman — between flesh and its accompanying technologies. Rather than tracking the transformation of one into the other, these essays address this borderline and the delicate dialectical situation in which it places us. Concentrating on this edge, the collection demonstrates how the human has been technologized and technology humanized. The eclectic approach taken by The Prosthetic Impulse draws on disciplines ranging from gender studies, philosophy, and visual culture to psychoanalysis, cybertheory, and phenomenology. The first section, Carnality: Between Phenomenology and the Biocultural concentrates on the organic, describing a body that, by its very materiality, is always and already prosthetic. The second section, Assembling: Internalization. Externalization, considers the technological qualities and peculiarities of prosthesis, raising questions about the ways in which film, photography, AI, drawing, and literature — representation itself — can be situated within the framework of a prosthetic discourse. Taken together, the essays suggest that prosthesis is material as well as metaphorical. It is just a matter of pondering where the inelegant edges lie, the editors write, and living them most wonderfully. |

500 Figures In Clay $24.95 Ceramic Artists Celebrate The Human Form It and 39;s an absolutely unequaled photographic gallery no other book has ever presented such a varied, captivating collection of contemporary ceramics based on the human form. The works range from representational to abstract, from artful realism to provocative surrealism, and many of them come from leaders in the field such as Judy Fox, Kurt Weiser, and Andy Nasisse. Kay Yourist has produced female forms that are smooth, minimalist vessels with only the slightest hint of breasts and belly. The simple, rounded features of Diane Lublinski and 39;s black-and-white figures possess a fun, clown-like whimsy. Michael A. Prathers mournful ceramic portraits have frowning faces and pointed dunce-like heads in a muted color palette. Many of the ceramics come with detail images and illuminating artists commentary. |

500 Animals In Clay $24.95 Contemporary Expressions Of The Animal Form No other volume has ever presented such a diverse and captivating collection of contemporary animal-themed ceramics. Juried by distinguished artist and educator Joe Bova, this magnificent gallery includes pieces from an international group of artists; the beautifully crafted works range from the representational to the abstract, from artful realism to provocative surrealism (including animal-human hybrids). Ann Marais image of a waterfowl painted onto a porcelain dish has a restrained, Asian quality. Sharkus painted and smoke-fired stoneware turtle could easily be mistaken for the living creature. Bova provides astute and illuminating commentary overall, with selected artists notes. Joe Bova is Professor Emeritus at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, where he taught from 1971 to 1990. He was awarded the SAF/National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship in 1985 and the Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art Fellowship in 1980.
